The Organization of transport strongly influences the configuration of urban spaces and, conversely, the development of the territories explains very broadly the profiles of the movements in the city.In sub-Saharan Africa, for the large heiresses of colonization,it s mainly the urbanization process that allows the profile of urban displacement to be explained.Major metropolises such as Benin,Abidjan,Dakar or Douala have a structure that was mainly set up in colonial times.Today this space usually corresponds to the city center. The rest of the population and the industrial activities occupied the peripheral areas little or not at all arranged. This study dealt with four chapters, the first one matter with the research background the statement of the problem found, the objectives and questions of research and ending with the literature review around the urban transport problem. The second chapter defined some keys word and exposed not only the theoretical framework used to conduct the study but also the research model and the hypothesis formulated. The third one presented a small briefing about Cotonou;place chooses for the study and showed the operationalization and measurement of data;the demographic analysis and the variable analysis. The last chapter concerned the crosstabulation analysis, the hypothesis s verification, the discussion and policies recommendation. This study deals with factors impacting the sustainable urban mobility of Cotonou, the economic capital of Benin. Thus, objectives are four:(1)To explore the relationship between the choice of the transportation mode of the inhabitants of the city of Cotonou and its surroundings.(2)To investigate the impact of monthly income on the choice of transportation mode for mobility in Cotonou city and its surroundings.(3)To investigate if the distance between home and work place have any influence on the urban mobility in Cotonou and its surroundings.(4)To examine the relationship between the cost of public transport and the mobility in Cotonou and its surroundings.Previous studies found are not much, and there were concerning urban sprawl, transport planning, automobility dependency, public transit sustainable urban mobility in some big cities around the world without forgetting the most important part, the negatives externalities related to urban transport that cities are facing.Although there has been extensive research around the world on this subject, there is a paucity of empirical research on the subject matter in Benin republic specifically and concerning mobility in African cities in general.Theories for explanatory factors of displacement behaviors has been used, they generally focus on placing daily mobility in the broader context of the individual s activities.Cotonou, economic capital of Benin, has been the region used for the study because it's the biggest city concentering not only most of activities, the majority of the Benin's population and also the most polluted. This study is based on an exclusive survey conducted on traffic users and randomly to have a greater accuracy of the real problem that constitutes mobility in Cotonou.Once the data has been collected,we have codified and analyzed it under the SPSS software. After the series of all the analysis namely demographic analysis, crosstabulation, the results out show that the mode of transport in the city of Cotonou is linked to the income per month of road users, the distance between home and work place and the cost of public transport. The results also show that variables mode of transport, the income per month the cost of public transit and the distance between workplace and home can be controlled with respectively cost of public transport distance between work place and home and mode of transport according to theirs items. Moreover, the study showed that the supply of transport and the demand for transport in the city are in imbalance, which is one of the main causes of the individual motorization. The population is ready to use public transport modes If however, all conditions are met.The public institutions in charge of mobility are struggling to solve the real problems of mobility and urbanism, which generates many externalities, serious problem for the fluidity of displacement in the city. Therefore, our recommendations were made in several parts and therefore concerns each actor intervening there. Our recommendations are articulated on two points;to act on the structures and improve the transport offer. This is specifically to mitigate the centrality and to focus the activities;to densify urban space and organize urban extensions;to give priority to public transport and non-motorizing modes of transport and to increase the priority for the organization of traffic and road infrastructure...
