Research On The Development Level And Influencing Factors Of Athletics In Rwanda

This study was aiming to know the situation of Athletics development in Rwanda and analyze their current level throughout different development variables in Athletics,and influencing factors that affect a better performance of Rwanda Athletes.Two kinds of questionnaires were administrated to athletes and coaches respectively and interviews were taken by some athletics and sports authorities in order to collect necessary primary data,while secondary data was sought through documentary data analysis.Data was then analyzed using Ms-Excel and SPSS.The results are presented using frequencies and charts.The results of this study show that:(1)In Rwanda Track and Field,Long distances and road races are the most events,especially because Rwanda has got high altitude relief which should be benefic for endurance training,also Rwandan Athletes go for long distances and road races because they lack appropriate training infrastructure and equipment for training themselves in others events.(2)Lack of Athletics culture,role models and poor management are a big challenge to development of athletics in Rwanda,while in Kenya and Ethiopia,known as home of long distance runners,it is their strong weapon for performing well.(3)Other common factor which should affect the development of athletics due to limited financial means also were mentioned,among them comes lack athletes' services,unemployment of athletics coaches and officials,limited materials and equipment,limited competitions,lack of medical care,lack of sciences and research.This study suggestion to the Ministry of Sports in Rwanda to empower collaboration among institutions in order to share limited financial means for to purpose of raising the flag of Rwanda.(1)Motivation in most promising young athletes giving merit athletics scholarships in Specific High schools and Universities.(2)All districts,National Army,National Police should recruit more athletes,build they own trainings venues,and having regular competitions as well as their coaching staff.
