Purpose: In order to solve the practical problem of the office crowd suffering from the upper crossed syndrome(UCS),this study was designed to observe the effects of Qigong Baduanjin exercise on UCS among people working in offices.Method: According to the diagnostic criteria of UCS,26 subjects working in offices suffered from UCS were selected to participate in this study. The subjects were divided into 2 groups randomly. The Qigong Baduanjin exercise programme was carried out in the subjects of the experiment group(n=13),2 bouts one day,3times per week,12 week in total. In the control group(n=13),the subjects did not carried out the exercise programme during the experiment period. All subjects maintained their routine lifestyle.Static posture of neck and shoulder, range of motion of cervical spine were measured, visual analogue scale(VAS)and Northwick park neck pain questionnaire(NPQ)were recorded before and after the experiment period.Result: 1.Static posture of neck and shoulder: forward head angle(FHA)and forward shoulder angle(FSA)in the experiment group were significantly decreased after the exercise programme(p<0.05)and were significantly lower than those in the control group at the end of the experiment(p<0.05),while there were no significant changes of FSA and FHA in the control group.2.Range of motion of cervical spine:the degrees of flexion, extension, lateral flexion on both sides and rotation to both sides in the experiment group were significantly increased after the exercise programme(p<0.05)and were significantly greater than those in the control group at the end of the experiment(p<0.05),while there were no significant changes of the degrees in the control group.3.VAS score: VAS score in the experiment group wassignificantly decreased after the exercise programme(p<0.05)and was significantly lower than that in the control group at the end of the experiment(p<0.05),while there was no significant change of VAS score in the control group.4.NPQ index: NPQ index in the experiment group was significantly decreased after the exercise programme(p<0.05)and was significantly lower than that in the control group at the end of the experiment(p<0.05),while there was no significant change of NPQ index in the control group. Conclusion: By way of Qigong Baduanjin exercise programme for 12 weeks, forward head and rounded shoulder posture could be improved, range of motion of cervical spine could be augmented, and pain of neck and shoulder could be alleviated among subjects working in offices suffered from UCS.
