Self-defense is a common psychological phenomenon. When individuals encounter threats of self-esteem,they subconsciously protect themselves, often through some reactions to avoid or distort information. When students develop strong selfdefense while studying, they will inhibit learning behavior, reduce learning effects, and seriously impair physical and mental health. Therefore, intervention studies in ecological contexts are needed. This study was conducted at the public welfare educational institution SYB(Shanghai Young Baker).Participants were SYB students, aged 17 to 23,from poor families who had previously studied poorly. In several sessions,a typical retreat and performance of two defenses were observed. This study designed teaching interventions based on observations from two years, hoping to promote students' intrinsic motivation and task-involvement through classroom activities to weaken defense. The courses include four types: debate activities, simulation management activities, baking knowledge contest and drama performance.Different courses have a complex interaction with students.Retreating and defending students are more motivated in simple and familiar courses, while performance defensive students show strong intrinsic motivation in difficult, innovative and collaborative activities.Adaptive students have different intrinsic motivations in different types of activities.
