Influence On Student Engagement Based On Teacher's Motivating Style In Learning Cyberspace

In“Internet+Education”era,learning cyberspace may realize to integrate with online learning and offline,which changing the way that learners acquire the knowledge and promoting educational conception transformation and institutional innovation,providing the construction and development of smart campus and intelligent education at the same time.As a key factor to affect student engagement which is one of the effective indicators to measure and evaluate online learning quality,teacher's motivating style plays an important role in learning motivation and may lead to student deep engagement.On the basis of self-determination theory and combing the relevant literatures such as learning cyberspace,teacher's motivating style and student engagement,this paper constructs a structural equation model which influence student engagement in learning cyberspace from teacher's motivating style,intrinsic motivation(perceived autonomy,perceived competence and perceived relatedness)and extrinsic motivation(external regulation,introjected regulation).Thus conducts empirical research using the self-directed learning cyberspace designed and developed by our team.Based on the related research and design of the Likert five-point scale,the items are adjusted and modified according to the pre-issued reliability and validity of the questionnaire,274 sophomores,juniors and seniors who participated in the courses of "Web Design and Development" and "Database Principles" in the learning cyberspace were surveyed.Use SPSS and AMOS to test the reliability,fitting effect and assumptions of the model.The results show that autonomy-supportive teacher's motivating style has a positive effect on student engagement.Also,it has a positive effect on perceive autonomy,competence and relatedness of intrinsic motivation.By contrast,controlling teacher's motivating style has no effect on student engagement,but it has a significant positive effect on external regulation and introjected regulation of extrinsic motivation.Perceived autonomy,competence and relatedness of intrinsic motivation all have positive effect on student engagement;External regulation and introjected regulation of extrinsic motivation both have no effect on student engagement.Moreover,perceived autonomy,competence and relatedness of intrinsic motivation are mediating variables of autonomy-supportive teacher's motivating style and student engagement.Finally,learning cyberspace optimization framework and advice have been provided from motivation quality,teacher's motivating strategies for enhancing student engagement based on autonomy-supportive teacher's motivating style and arousing positive impact on student engagement through controlling teacher's motivating style,thus providing new implications and perspectives for relevant educators and learning cyberspace builders.
