As one of the most influential mass media in the contemporary era,film stands as an important medium for shaping teacher images.Since the emergence of Chinese films in 1905,it has its unique aesthetic orientation in shaping of teachers' image during the past hundred years.Based on the Chinese educational films over the last one hundred years,this article uses the methods of literature review,content analysis,historical analysis,and comparative analysis.After defining the concepts of educational films and teacher images,the study analyzes the teacher images in films.Finally,the paper evaluates and summarizes the features of teachers' image in each stage.This study is mainly divided into five parts.The first part is the introduction.In order to make a more comprehensive analysis,this paper clarifies the reason,significance,research methods and literature review.The second part is definition of the relevant concepts,concluding the concepts of film,educational film and teacher image.Meanwhile,the research object of this paper is clarified.The third part is based on watching about one hundred films that mainly talk about education and present vivid teacher images,the paper selects more than 30 films following the clue of time and analyzes the teacher images from an educational perspective.Through dividing the films into different stages and analyzing the corresponding teacher images,the mainstream teacher images is divided into four categories: the light chasers in the darkness,the socialistic builders,the saints gradually coming down to the ordinary work,and people with ideal and true humanity.The fourth part comes to summarize the excellent qualities shown by the mainstream teacher images in Chinese educational films,concluding dedication,loving student,loving learning and loving teaching,based on an in-depth analysis of teacher images in more than 30 films.The last part summarizes three deficiencies of the way the mainstream teacher images presented in Chinese educational films,concluding one-sidedness in moral image,the stereotype in bodies image and the marginalization in professional image.
