Into Film is a non-profit education organization established in 2013 by the British Film Institute(BFI)in conjunction with Cinema First,FILMCLUB and First Light.Because Into Film play an important role in a film education program for 5 to 19 year old children in BFI's five-year plan "Film Forever",every year BFI assigns some of the National Lottery Fund to it.The main research question in this paper is to evaluate the rationality of film literacy curriculum which Into Film designs.The 651 material is downloaded from Into Film's official website.The theory I used in this paper is the 3Cs model and the curriculum theory invented under it.The first chapter of the thesis is a detailed introduction of the origin of the 3Cs theory model and the curriculum theory invented under it.Chapter 2 to 4,based on the three dimensions of the 3Cs theory model which are culture access,critical understanding,creative activity,divide the film curriculum from Into Film into three types.I analyze teaching targets,teaching content,and teaching methods of these course packages using the course theory which includes twelve learning outcomes,six key learning areas,and six teaching strategies.Finally,the conclusion paragraph makes a summary about the successes and weakness of Into Film's curriculum from three aspects which are overflow,lack and imbalance.Firstly,I find how to carry out integrative curriculum in an appropriate pattern is threatening film as the core concept in practice of film literacy education.In other words,how to make a breakthrough in the current education status is an urgent problem for British film educators.Secondly,from the perspective of the 3Cs theory model,I find the missing part of the curriculum reveals that existing practice is lack of attention to Reception Aesthetics Theory and how a film text constructs a media world.I think this will prevent the curriculum from going to a deeper critical dimension.Thirdly,I notice that the imbalance among three course types or within one type reflects the Into Film's practical consideration.And we should also notice that the Britain educators are facing two major problems.First is film course failing to enter the classroom independently;Second is difficulties of classroom organization and student management in film education.The extensive development of film clubs has solved the two problems in some extent.In addition to the evaluation of Into Film's film education practice,this paper further discusses the feasibility of the 3Cs theory model and the course theory based on it.I think the invent of these theories must be influenced by complex educational trends such as multi-cultural education,citizenship education and media education,and realistic factors as British Cultural Policy.This theory model is also an example of positivism route of British film education theory.And in the mismatch between theory and practice,we can also see the different influence of film theory transformation on film education theory and practice.Especially the introduction of media study,cultural research,and acceptance aesthetics makes a great difference between theory and practice.In addition,3Cs,as a teaching objective oriented theoretical model,does face many difficulties in guiding teaching practice.It needs to be further refined to avoid theoretical generalization and to be easier to apply.
