In this paper we synthesized ten novel metal complexes based on 4,4’-bis((1H-imidazol-l-yl)methyl)-1,1’-biphenyl(bimb)and carboxylica acids as the mixed ligands by hydrothermal and the volatile method,eight of which are constructed by coordination bonds and two of which constructed by hydrogen bonds.These complexes were characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction.In addition,we also studied the fluorescence properties of the complexes.Complexes 1 and 2 were prepared by the reaction of bimb ligand with the transition metal cobalt chloride and cobalt nitrate respectively.Complex 1 shows a 2D 4,4-connected(sql)rhombus topological structure and complex 2 exibits a 2-fold interpenetrating pcu-type 3D structure.Complexes 3 and 4 were prepared by adding isophthalic(o-bdc)and phthalate(m-bdc)to the reaction system respectively.Complex 3 is a 4,4-connection(sq1)2D wave-layer stacked 2D structure and complex 4 shows a 3D structure with uoc-type topology.Complexes 5,9 and 10 were prepared by bimb ligand reacting with the chloride and nitrate salts of Zinc,Cadmium and mercury respectively.Complex 5 has a ID chain structure,futhermore,complexes 9 and 10 are isostructural,with the central metal coordinated with chlorine anions which connect bimb ligands through hydrogen bonds to form a chain packing structure.Complexes 6,7 and 8 were prepared by adding isophthalic(o-bdc),trimesic acid(H3btc)and phthalate(m-bdc)respectively to the reaction system.Complexes 6 and 4 are isomorphic crystals with uoc-type topology,complex 7 shows 2-fold interpenetrating layers stucture.Complexes 8 and 3 exhibit isomorphic 2D structures with 4,4-connected(sql)2D wave-layers stacked to each other.In addition,we also tested the fluorescence properties of the ligand bimb,complex solid powder 2,3,4,6 and 7,the results showed that has certain fluorescent properties.
