Research On Jiao Xun's Exegetical Study Of "Mao Shibu Shu"

Jiao Xun is one of the representative figures of the Yangzhou School in the Qing Dynasty.He is a knowledgeable man who is great at history,calendar,Xiao Xue,poetry,prose,medicine and opera.Through his life,He writes a lot of innovative articles and is hailed as"Master of Confucianism"by Ruan Yuan(a famous master of Confucianism researching).Jiao Xun makes efforts to study "Songs",from commenting "Mao Shi Zhu Shu"in the period of Qianlong(the year of 1781)to finish the work "Mao Shi Bu Shu" in the year of 1818,he never stopped researching "The Book of Songs".This paper taking his representative work "Mao Shi Bu Shu" as the research object,interprets the text from the perspective of exegesis,and systematically studies the conditions and characteristics of exegesis as complete as possible,in order to be helpful to the study of "The Book of Songs",Jiao Xun,and other related researches in the Qing Dynasty.This paper is divided into the following six parts:The first part is the introduction,which mainly introduces the life of Jiao Xun,related knowledge of "Mao Shi Bu Shu" researches on "The Book of Songs" in Qing Dynasty,the studies of Jiao Xun and the research status of "Mao Shi Bu Shu",then explains the research methods and significance of this paper.The second part discusses the content of exegesis about "Mao Shi Bu Shu" in detail and illustrates the exegesis contents of this book from many perspectives,such as interpreting the meaning of words,identifying the correct pronunciations,analysising the punctuatings,researching the terms of objects and clarificating the main ideas of each chapter.The third part analyses and concludes the methods of exegesis in Jiao Xun’s "Mao Shi Bu Shu",mainly from five aspects:exploring the meaning from pronunciation,searching the meaning from the context,examining the meaning from history,verifying the meaning from the dialect,and seeking the meaning from exegesis.The fourth part generalizes the terms of exegesis in Jiao Xun’s "Mao Shi Bu Shu",which is divided into three small categories,the terms of interpretation,the terms of phonetic notation and emendation.The fifth part mainly discusses Jiao Xun’s exploration of Confucianism and the previous exegesis of "The Book of Songs".Mao Xun’s exploration of Confucianism mainly has two points:the elaboration of Confucian poetics and the promotion of an agent;The exploration of the previous exegesis of "The Book of Songs" mainly has four points:the declaration of meaning of“Mao Zhuan",the correction of the "Zheng Jian",rectification and a complement to "Zheng Yi" and differences between "Zhuan" and "Jian" are analyzed.The sixth part concretely analyzes the achievements and shortcomings about the exegesis of Jiao Xun’s "Mao Shi Bu Shu".Explaining the achievements of the book’s exegesis from three aspects:breaking through the traditional exegesis methods,showing the learning style of truly experiment and reflecting the function of the "precise examine".In the end,pointing out the shortcomings of Jiao Xun’s "Mao Shi Bu Shu".
