Recognition And Reconstruction: A Study Of "Yan'an Memory" Of Intellectuals In The 1980

The 1980s in China was a special period.After the Cultural Revolution,the political,economic and cultural construction of the country had been destroyed to some degree and some intellectuals had lost their status in the society.The whole society was greatly changing.On the one hand,the wrong route of the Cultural Revolution had been corrected and the construction of the nation was booming.On the other hand,the previous ideological confinement was being broken and the policy of Reform and Open was put into practice.Under such a background,intellectuals began to rebuild their identity.They recalled the years in Yan'an and traced the revolutionary tradition of Yan'an so that they could establish the new dynamic relationship between the individual and the times.The intellectual' s writings about Yan'an was a unique literary phenomenon in the 1980s due to its huge amount.At that time,the 'memory of Yan'an' was one of the carriers of historical tradition of revolution.On the surface,it seems that there was no need to bring the tradition of Yan'an under the background of Mind Emancipation because many cultural and political criticism campaigns were the result of Yan'an.What more,In 1980s,China sought to open to the outside world while Yan'an in 1940s did not have the characteristics of opening.In some way,it could be said that Yan'an in 1940s was closed under the encirclement of the Japanese aggressors and the Kuomintang.Through a close reading of the text about recalling of Yan'an,we can find that the emergence of the 'memory of Yan'an' has its inevitability.First,the 'memory of Yan'an ' was a tool for intellectuals to seek personal identity.Through recalling Yan'an they appeased themselves and established the individual again.Second,the 'memory of Yan'an' was closely related to the change in 1980s in China.Yan'an's intellectuals was behind the times and meanwhile the negative social phenomenon emerged this time also pushed them to rethink the reform.Finally,the prosperity and rapid development of literature and art in 1980s was so rare that the intellectuals was difficult to accept the change.The intellectuals traced the literature and art of Yan'an was aim to summarize the previous thought of literature and art.On the basis of rethinking of the history,they wanted to construct their own literary ideal.This paper includes four parts:introduction,body,epilogue and appendix.The introduction sorts out the research about literature and art of Yan'an and finds that researchers have carried out detailed research on Yan'an literature and art but have ignored the phenomenon of recalling of Yan'an especially the 'memory of Yan'an' in 1980s.Then,this paper defines what is the 'memory of Yan'an' and confirms its connotation.Finally,the paper declares its purpose and significance.The main body of this paper is divided into the following three parts.First,it analyses the content of the text which are about the intellectual's memory of Yan'an and the writing strategy of the text and clarifies the relationship between the literary memory and the identity of the intellectuals.It also returns to the original condition in which the intellectuals are eager to participate in the construction of the country in the 1980s.Secondly,the paper explores image of Yan'an in the memory of the intellectuals and Yan'an's multiple mentions through taking the interaction between the Reform and Open and the memory of Yan'an as a breakthrough point.Finally,the paper analyzes the Yan'an's literature and art in the ' memory of Yan'an ' and finds that through recalling Yan'an,the intellectuals attempted to follow the literature and art in Yan'an.The paper also explores the connection between the literature and art of Yan'an in 1940s and the literature and art in 1980s and reveals the reconstruction of Yan'an's literary tradition.In the appendix,the paper collects the books about 'memory of Yan'an'.Appendix one includes the books about ' memory of Yan'an ' that edited by the intellectuals.Appendix two collects 126 articles about ' memory of Yan'an ' written by the intellectuals.Because of the lack of time,it still has some omissions and need supplement.
