The Youth Edition of Kunqu Opera "The Peony Pavilion" achieved significant successd and won wide acclaim from domestic and foreign audiences,for its classic inheritance of cultural traditions.Thus,this paper intends to take this successful case as a research subject.To begin with,this paper explains the meaning of Kunqu Opera and "The Peony Pavilion" from cultural symbol perspective in the first chapter,following the collation of the history of Kunqu Opera's "The Peony Pavilion" at home and abroad.This chapter means to demonstrate the cultural significance of the Youth Edition of Kunqu "The Peony Pavilion" in the history of Kunqu Opera.In addition,the second chapter marks the Chinese and Western audience 's feedback and quantitative statistics respectively,from the the following three factors:drama script,stage presentation,culture inheritance and cross-cultural comparison.Besides,it analyzes similarities and differences through Chinese and Western audience 's interpretation of the Youth Edition of Kunqu Opera "The Peony Pavilion",according to the the feedback which are suggested in charts,diagrams,and statistical analysis.After analysis and comparison,it is found that the similarities are mainly expressed by the following two aspects:fisrtly,both Chinese and Western audiences highly appraised the elements of the "supreme sentiment" about drama script of the Youth Edition of Kunqu Opera " The Peony Pavilion",and the "the appearance of makeup and costume","dances and movements" which are presented on the stage;secondly,the appreciation of visual elements is generally higher than the auditory elements.The differences are reflected as followed,the Chinese audience tend to take this opera as a culture production of successful tradition inheritance and highlights its cultural significance rather than the artistic value.However,the Western audience appreciates the aesthetic appearance of the play and pays much more attention to its art value.From the similar and different comprehensions above,it implies that the inheritance of the culture tradition is the foundation to succeed on cross-cultural communication abroad.To the end,the third chapter plans and attempts to summarize the successful enlightenment of the Youth Edition of Kunqu Opera "The Peony Pavilion",from the views of communicator,content,audience and channels.As the communicator,they should cultivate their own awareness of "cultural awareness",which suggests when conducting communication activities,they would better take innovation and integration of culture tradition and modernity as well as nationality and universal into serious and comprehensive consideration.When it comes to screening and coding specific information of content,communicator could try to choose a universal concept,and to creative modern transformation of traditional culture.As far as audience and communication channels are concerned,it is necessary to clearly target the target audience and to apply a variety of communication channels to meet the needs of the audience,in order to achieve better communication results.
