| By the methods of investigation statistic and analyzing language materials, this paper describes the use condition of the scope adverb in artistic style and scientific style from three levels of semantics, grammar and pragmatics.According to the characteristics of the scope adverb, this article divides the scope adverb into four categories, that is the all-inclusive scope adverb, the statistical scope adverb, the definitive scope adverb and the extensional scope adverb. Then two adverbs with the highest frequency of the scope adverb in each range are counted, that is "dou" and "quan","gong" and "yigong","zti" and "jin","you" and "hai".They are treated as representatives of various types of the scope adverb.Firstly,in artistic style and scientific style, the usage of "dou" is more frequent than "quan",indicating that the adaptability of "dou" is far greater than the adaptability of "quan".It can be considered that "dou" is more active than"quan".Secondly, the frequency of usage of the two-syllable adverb"yigong" in artistic style is much higher than its frequency in scientific style. The reason is that the artistic style emphasizes the beauty of rhythm;but the frequency of usage of the monosyllabic adverbs "gong" in scientific style is much higher than its frequency in artistic style, this is because the scientific style emphasizes generality and abstraction, and monosyllabic words are better to reflect the conciseness of the scientific style.Thirdly, the scope adverb "zhi",is far more frequently used in both artistic style and scientific style, than the frequency of "jin",because "zhi" is more active than"jki",and the two-syllable adverb "jinjin" accounts for a large proportion, that "jin"and "jinjin" share together,"jinjin" squeezes the space of "jin"Finally, the frequency of usage of "you",is much higher than the frequency of"hai" both in artistic style and scientific style, because "you" is more active"hai".The grammatical function and pragmatic function of "you" and "hai" are basically same in artistic style and scientific style. This is determined by their own properties. |
