A Study On The Reception Of Wellek's "Literary Theory" In China

René Wellek was an outstanding literary critic,critical historian,comparator and intellectual historian in the 20 th century.After his representative work Theory of literature was introduced into China,it caused a lot of discussion and controversy,and at the same time,there were many variations and misinterpretations.By explaining the acceptance of Theory of literature in China,this paper systematically sorts out our thinking in the process of acceptance,and then reflects on the problems of western Theory of literature in the process of acceptance in China.The analysis of the reception of Theory of literature in China should not only deeply and completely interpret its connotation,but also pay attention to the phenomenon of misreading in Chinese context.In the continuous interpretation and thinking to obtain more academic inspiration for the compilation of contemporary Chinese Theory of literature to provide new ideas and new theoretical perspective.In addition to the introduction,the thesis is mainly divided into three chapters and 12 sections.The first chapter is divided into three sections,summarizing the introduction of Theory of literature into China and its interpretation in the process of acceptance.In the 1960 s,there was a sporadic introduction of Wellek in China,but mainly as a criticism object of Theory of literature;The academic world’s real understanding and interpretation of Wellek and Theory of literature began after 1984 with the publication of the first Chinese translation of Theory of literature.There are three versions of Theory of literature translated into Chinese in China,namely 1984 edition,2005 edition,and 2010 edition.The differences are mainly reflected in some changes in form and translation problems between the first two versions.Chapter two is composed of five sections.This paper expatiates on the acceptance and thinking of Wellek’s literary concepts and research methods in China in Theory of literature.At the same time,Wellek divides literature into internal research and external research,which leads to the trend of "turning inward" of literary research in the world academic circle.And the combing and interpretation of Wellek’s view of literary history.Chapter three is divided into four sections,summarizing and focusing on the analysis of the adaptation interpretation of Theory of literature and the causes and thinking of misreading.The misreading in the process of accepting Theory of literature is not derogatory,but the timely response of Chinese academic circles to the acceptance of foreign theories based on the unique acceptance environment of China,and some of them are even intentional and creative misreading.With the deepening of the interpretation,it has certain reflection and enlightenment significance for the compilation of Chinese Theory of literature textbooks.In the end,this paper puts forward the idea of "surpassing Wellek",that is,on the basis of interpretation,internalization and reference,the compilation of Chinese Theory of literature is more diversified,conversational and critical.
