"Reflection" And "Criticism" Of The Real Society

“策展人”is a relatively popular word in current China.This Chinese word was translated from the English vocabulary“Curator”.This thesis paper begins with sorting out the knowledge and theory around the word“Curator”,and then points out the fact that this word is widely utilized in American society,including the contemporary art field.Moreover,this paper mainly selects three different types of curatorial models and examples,and analyzes them through the perspectives of curators’missions,approaches,and strategies.The political nature and social reflectivity of these selected projects will also be discussed.Besides the strategies and approaches,the American culture system is another fundamental reason leading to the accomplishment of these social and political curatorial projects.Selected major reasons mentioned in this paper are as follows:Artistic expression and censorship maintained by the law;Complexity of the immigrant country;Non-profit organization and donation culture.The paper discusses the American contemporary curatorial practices from curators’strategies and the American culture system by selecting several typical American contemporary curatorial projects in purpose of social and political consideration.
