Since the birth of Hong Kong films,they have gone through a period of confusion and hesitation,and also a period of popularity and prosperity.To this day,the difficult progress still has an inestimable influence in the history of Chinese films and even in the world film.There are not only the efforts of many Hong Kong male directors,but also the struggle of a group of female directors.With their special female perspective and gender consciousness,they have created many different roles from male directors in film works.This paper chooses the male image in Hong Kong female directors’ films as the research object,based on feminist theory and male studies,and from the perspective of Hong Kong film history,discussing the transformation process of Hong Kong female directors’ gender consciousness from unconsciously to consciously,and under the influence of the historical and cultural background,the male images created in their films have different characteristics in different periods.This paper mainly uses the progressive historical time as the axis,starting from the three stages of the development of Hong Kong film history,summarizing the common characteristics of male images in Hong Kong female directors’ film works at different stages and analyzing its value significance.The introduction part is a comprehensive combing of the research of this topic.The first chapter clarifies the special background of male image changes in Hong Kong female directors’ film works by combing the development of Hong Kong films and Hong Kong female directors.The second chapter to the fourth chapter are the characteristics of the male image in Hong Kong women’s director film works from the three stages of Hong Kong film development.The first stage was the four pioneering female directors who were mainly composed of Wu Jinxia,Ren Yizhi,Gao Baoshu and Tang Shuzhen before the 1980 s.Under the weak and unclear female consciousness,the male image they created generally presented a kind of "respect".Continuation.The second stage was from the early 1980 s to the end of the 1990 s.Four women directors of Hong Kong,Xu Anhua,Shan Huizhu,Luo Zhuoyao and Zhang Wanting were the mainstays.Their gender consciousness was “reviewed” under the influence of business and social environment.It has both the norms of the local tradition and the rethinking of modern society.Therefore,the maleimage was initially shaped into the social signifier and assumed an important role.With the general conscious awareness of female consciousness,the male image is shaped into a multi-faceted and weakened image.The third stage is the 21 st century,with Huang Zhenzhen,Li Miaoxue,Lin Aihua,and Mai Xiyin as the main Hong Kong new generation female directors.Their female consciousness has become self-conscious and manifested.It is a kind of three reflections of "awake".With the new female consciousness of modern color,the male image that has been shaped also carries a new label.This paper believes that the gender consciousness of female directors in Hong Kong is changed with the times and the environment.The male image created by it is characterized by this superposition and presents with the characteristics of the times and consciousness.However,the expression of women’s consciousness and attitude has always been restricted by the concept of social regulations,thus limiting their overall culture.
