Lawyers' Language (Chapter 5) English-Chinese Translation Practice Report

The original text of the translation practice report is excerpted from the legal linguistics work--Lawyers’ Language,published by Alfred Phillips in 2003,which is of great research value,because it explains in detail how common language is transformed into lawyer’s language and proves the legitimacy of lawyer’s language through examples.In this translation report,the translation of Lawyers’ Language(Chapter 5)is mainly taken as an example to explore the translation strategies of English-Chinese cohesive devices.Through a comprehensive analysis of the source language,its textual features are mainly manifested in three aspects: reference,substitution and omission.Therefore,this paper studies the translation of these three cohesion modes and proposes that different translation strategies should be taken in translation.
