China’s Standards of English Language Ability(CSE)was published on 12,February,2018 by Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and National Language Commission of the People’s Republic of China.Then it was implemented as National Language Standard on 1,June,2018.The CSE is the first assessment standard of grades about English language ability in China.It can not only be used as a standard of division about English ability level,but also provide a reference for language learning and teaching.But it’s not long time from implementing of CSE,so there has been few studies about replying CSE to practical teaching.Therefore,this study takes the self-assessment scale in CSE as an example to explore the application and effect of CSE in English teaching in junior high schools.This can increase application of the scale,develop the actual value of the scale,and improve the learning effect.There are 126 students participating in this study,who come from two parallel classes--class 9 and class 10,grade 2,Yu tai junior high school in Ji ning.One is the control class and the other is the experimental class.There are 63 students in the control class and 63 students in the experimental class.In the experimental class,students assess themselves according to the self-assessment scale,while in the control class,students do not implement self-assessment and only follow the routine teaching.But other influencing factors of the two classes keep the same.12 weeks later,the research data are analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively.The research data are mainly collected from English tests,two questionnaires and interviews.This study attempts to answer the following two questions:(1)What is the impact of students’ self-assessment on their English score by using this self-assessment scale?(2)What is the impact of students’ self-assessment on their reflective ability in English learning by using this scale?Finally,this study draws the following conclusions: By using the self-assessment scale,(1)After experimenting,English score of students in the experimental class is markedly more than English score of students in the control class.(2)After experimenting,students in the experimental class significantly improves their reflective ability of English learning.Based on the above conclusions,it can be summarized that the Self-evaluation Scale in CSE applied to the actual teaching make students more clearly know their own advantages and disadvantages as well as the direction of improvement by its specific and hierarchical description of English ability.Meanwhile,students’ self-assessment can stimulate students’ interest in English learning and become an effective method to mobilize students’ active participation in English learning.This study provides a new learning model for English learning.Students canuse the Self-evaluation Scale,a new self-evaluation tool,to improve the teaching quality.
