In interpreting learning,to be a professional interpreter takes thousands of hundreds hours of practice. In this process,self-assessment plays a very important role.As one of the means of formative assessment,self-assessment can help students determine their own abilities, make learning goals, and formulate corresponding learning plans, which is meaningful to students’ self-promotion.However,there was no objective and scientific standards for interpreting evaluation before the release of China’s Standards of English Language ability(hereinafter referred to as “CSE”),so it is difficult for students to analyze their own interpreting ability accurately and comprehensively. The Self-assessment Scale of Interpreting Ability(hereinafter referred to as“SASIA”)in the CSE provides learners with a powerful tool for self-evaluation of interpretation. However,a new scale need to be verified by a large number of examples.Whether the SASIA can effectively measure interpreting ability still needs further verification. From the perspective of interpreting learners, this research explores the application and effectiveness of the SASIA.The research found that by using the SASIA,students can make a general judgment on their own interpretation ability. However,it is difficult to make accurate self-assessment of interpretation based on the descriptors of the SASIA.The reasons are:(1)No instruction about the use of the interpreting ability scale is provided;(2)The interpreting typical characteristics scale related to the interpreting quality evaluation is not included in the interpreting scales;(3)The descriptors are too general, which makes the distinction between levels not obvious. In conclusion, the Interpreting ability scales provide a systematic evaluation system for interpreters, but it still needs further improving.
