| The parallel prose in Hunan flourished in the late Qing Dynasty and has important value.There have been a few case studies,but few thematic studies.This paper intends to make a comprehensive study of its overall characteristics,its representative writers and the reasons for its prosperity.Combining points and aspects,this paper comprehensively investigates its characteristics and statu.The introduction defines the research scope,centers on Zhou Shouchang,Wang Kaiyun,Wang Xianqian,Yan Zhenheng,Pi Xirui and Yi Shunding,and introduces the research status and personal opinions.The first chapter is an introduction to the main features of parallel prose in Hunan in late Qing Dynasty.It points out that it has a wide range of contents and rich themes,draws on the “SaoTi” literary style and is related to the local conditions of Hunan.In form,the parallel prose blends with prose,the structure is loose.According to the main identity of the author,Wang Kaiyun,Yi Shunding and Zhou Shouchang are generally attributed to the more talented authors.Wang Xianqian,Yan Zhenheng,and Pi Xirui are scholar-type authors.The second chapter examines the parallel prosecreation of the talented authors.The first section explores Wang Kaiyun’s“single and multiple sharing”parallelism theory,and compares his various parallel posers with the works in Six Dynasties,reflecting his simulation and innovation.The second section,based on duality and rhetoric and the different use of allusions,points out that Yi Shunding’s parallel prose is generally magnificent and changeable.The third section analyzes the “plain and lush ”style of Zhou Shouchang’s parallel prose by using a lot of allusions but not uncommon and taking elegant but not delicate writing style.The third chapter discusses the theoretical and creative characteristics of the partial scholar-type writers.The first section is centered on Pianwen leizuan and the Selected Parallel Prose by Ten Writers in Qing Dynasty,highlights Wang Xianqian’s parallel prose theory and its significance,and briefly discusses his elegant creation.The second section reveals the merits of Yan Zhenwen’s chanting history,using ancient lessons to date,and analyzes its abundant momentum from the use of function word.The third section focuses on the Confucian classics and historical features of Pi Xirui’s parallel prose,and also pays attention to his merit of expressing feelings through scenery.The fourth chapterinvestigates the reasons for the prosperity of parallel prose in Hunan from several aspects.The theories and creations of the parallel prose in Qing Dynasty laid an important foundation for it.The special political environment of Hunan in the late Qing Dynasty and the “retro” mentality of the writers are its origins.The prosperity of other literary genres,the academic cultivation and friendship of the writers provide power for it.The conclusion focuses on the richness of the content,the proficiency of the art,and the influence of the writers,comments on the achievements and literary history orientation of parallel prose in Hunan in late Qing Dynasty. |
