Liang Qichao’s life has made outstanding contributions to China’s progressive.Especially during the Constitutional Reform,Liang Qichao deeply studied western thoughts, combined with Chinese traditional Confucian culture, and put forward a systematic theory of shaping new personality in the new era.The obligation concept is a concentrated reflection of Liang Qichao’s new people’s thinking, and it is also a powerful weapon to shake the feudal rule and promote China’s transformation to modern society. The concept of obligation is came into being in the period of China’s internal and external troubles. He deeply pondered the deep-seated reasons for China’s national crisis. The reason for China’s backwardness lies in the backwardness of the Chinese people,so in order to shape the new people,he criticized the thoughts that were not conducive to the social development of that time, such as the three cardinal guides and the five constant virtues as specified in the feudal ethical code, combining the utilitarianism, survival of the fittest and other progressive thoughts of the western culture at that time,he put forward the systematic theory of the obligation view,He thought that people’s unilateral obligation to the emperor could not be emphasized as much as the traditional society.Instead,he put forward the obligation view of unifying obligation and right, which awakened people’s right consciousness. At the same time,he opposed people’s narrow view of private morality, and thought that a citizen should be responsible for the group he lives in,for the country, and to fulfill his obligations to the country,so he further put forward the view of public morality.Liang Qichao also put forward corresponding measures to realize the concept of obligation. In his opinion,at the personal level,it is unreasonable to develop both morality and wisdom, develop wisdom and promote morality of the people, and favor either side.Liang Qichao’s progress lies in that he has changed the tradition of only relying on the rule of man in the past and put forward the restriction of law. This was a great progress for the society at that time.In general,Liang Qichao’s view of duty originates from the traditional Confucianism and is different from Confucianism. He criticizes the traditional Confucianism’s view of justice and benefit as well as the hierarchy and makes a new interpretation. His concept of obligation not only improved people’s group thought, but also stimulated people’s right consciousness and national concept, which changed the social atmosphere at that time and made great contribution to China’s progress.
