Since the birth of painting art,space has always existed as an important element.From the ancient Greek period to the Italian Renaissance to Impressionism,artists are all pursuing the authenticity of realistic space.However,in the modern art of the twentieth century,the emergence of Surrealist School of Painting changed the artist’s traditional perception of painting space,showing different spatial styles,and contradictory spaces emerged at the historic moment.It uses methods such as viewpoint shifting and interleaving to create spatial states that are impossible to achieve in real life.The Belgian painter Rene Magritte is one of the representatives of European surrealist art.His paintings are based on strange visual images and unique expression techniques to construct contradictory painting spaces,and successfully reveal the dream world hidden deep inside people’s hearts.This article analyzes from the work of Magritte,in order to explore the contradictory space in his paintings and its influence on the author’s creative practice.The article is divided into three main parts: The first part explains the cause of the contradictory space in Magritte’s paintings;The second part focuses on analyzing the manifestation of contradictory space in Magritte’s works;The third part combines the contradictory space in Magritte’s paintings with the author’s own painting creation,and feels the changes and development of self-creation through actual creation.
