Analysis And Application Of Contradictory Spaces In Magritte Paintings

Magritte is a great Belgian surrealist painter.He is good at transforming objects commonly seen in life into strange combinations through ingenious conception,forming the contradiction of picture space.His unique imagination and insight make his works show a strong expression.This paper mainly studies the expression technique of contradiction space in Magritte’s oil painting and closely combines it with the author’s creation practice.This thesis first introduces the formation and evolution of Magritte’s artistic style.Based on his historical background and personal experience,this paper analyzes and summarizes the evolution of his artistic style.Secondly,it describes some concepts and specific interpretation of contradiction space,and analyzes the contradiction space into four forms: same and different,synchronic and diachronic.Next,combining the four forms with the specific expression in Magritte’s paintings,the paper makes an in-depth analysis and research on its subject matter,composition and color.Finally,the process of creation and practice is explored.By referring to Magritte’s artistic expression techniques of contradiction space,scenes and objects of personal experience and daily life are placed in the paradoxical and strange space to gradually form their own creative language.
