Fathers play an extremely important role in the growth of families and children.Research shows that for children's cognitive development, social development and mental health, father's participation in parenting plays an irreplaceable and important role, which is different from mother's parenting. However,in China, father's participation in family education activities is relatively low,so how to promote father's more participation becomes particularly important.Previous studies have shown that maternal gatekeeping is an important variable affecting father's participation, which refers to the mother's attitude of consciously or unconsciously supporting or limiting father's participation in child rearing activities. However, some scholars pointed out that the father has his own subjective initiative, which is not completely determined by the mother's attitude and behavior.Belief in self-efficacy is an important basis for individual actions.Parenting efficacy,as an extension of self-efficacy in family education,is an individual variable that influences the individual actions of fathers. Therefore,in this study, parents of middle school students were selected as the research objects and the questionnaire on maternal gatekeeping attitude was compiled by themselves. The questionnaire method was used to study the influence of maternal gatekeeping attitude on father's participation, and the effect of parental parenting efficacy on the two was discussed. There are two parts in this study:first,on the basis of reading the existing relevant literature and referring to the previous questionnaire, the questionnaire on mother's gatekeeping attitude was compiled in combination with its own theoretical conception.Research using the questionnaire method,in order to "mother attitude questionnaire" gatekeepers,"father bred into questionnaire" and "parenting self-efficacy questionnaire as measuring tools, two high school in wuxi and taizhou 490 investigating high school students parents, discusses the overall condition of mother gatekeepers, mother's attitude to his father gatekeepers to participate in the breeding, and the influence of his father's own parenting self-efficacy role between them. The results show that:(1)self-compiled questionnaire on mothers' gatekeeping attitude is divided into two subscales of restriction and support, with a total of 18 items and 5 dimensions. The fitting degree of the model basically conforms to the statistical standard, and the questionnaire has a good reliability and validity.(2)rapid clustering can be used to divide the mother's gatekeeping attitude into three types:supportive, restrictive and contradictory. There were significant differences in parental efficacy and paternal involvement in parenting among different types of maternal gatekeeping attitudes.(3)paternal parenting efficacy had a significant mediating effect between(supportive/restrictive)maternal gatekeeping attitude and paternal involvement. The main conclusions of this study are as follows:(1)the questionnaire on maternal gatekeeping attitude compiled by ourselves has a good reliability and validity, which can be used as an effective measurement tool for the maternal gatekeeping attitude of Chinese middle school students.(2)different types of mother's gatekeeping attitude will have different influences on father's participation.Compared with supportive and restrictive mothers, mothers with ambivalent gatekeeping attitude had the highest degree of spouse involvement in parenting.(3)paternal parenting efficacy plays a partial mediating role between maternal gatekeeping attitude and paternal involvement. In other words, the influence of maternal gatekeeping attitude on paternal involvement in parenting is partly influenced by paternal parenting efficacy.
