Abstract/Summary:
This paper studies the energy security issues of the European Union in relation with Russian policy and tries to identify if the policies taken are adequate to secure the flow of energy. Devoted to meet this objective, the study includes a review of the existing literature on key aspects of the subject promoting this way a deeper insight on the issue in question and its parameters. In addition, the securitization theory is being used that is going to help us understand the subject. The paper starts with a global view of energy security and then concentrates on Europe and energy, Russia and energy and later about the relations of those two in regard on energy security and the policies that the European Union is taking. In addition, we discuss about the outcomes from the different decisions that the European Union can take and the possible solutions that will give a better outcome and finally, in the conclusion we reassess all the key focal areas of our study and we try to give an answer.
