| The purpose of the present study, using Orem's (2001) self-care deficit nursing theory, was to establish content validity, test-retest reliability, and internal consistency of the Short Inflammatory Bowel Disease Questionnaire (SIBDQ), a 10-item tool used to assess the perceptions of quality of life in individuals with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The sample included 10 individuals with experience in IBD and gastroenterology in Group 1 and 1 I individuals with IBD in Group 2. Descriptive statistics identified the perceptions of quality of life in individuals with IBD. Data were analyzed using a percentage of agreement, Cronbach's a coefficient, paired-sample t-test, and Pearson's r correlation. Results reveal that the SIBDQ was valid and reliable when assessing the perceptions of quality of life in individuals with IBD in the United States. Future studies should utilize a larger sample size, other areas of the nation, and inpatient settings. |
