| The aim of this six month randomized, controlled, blinded, clinical reentry study was to compare the regenerative healing following guided tissue regeneration (GTR) using a collagen membrane plus freeze dried bone allograft (CMG) to flap debridement alone (OFD).; Twenty-six patients, 17 males and 9 females, from age 32 to 71 (56.36 ± 7.23) were included in the study. Each patient had adult periodontitis with a Class II furcation defect measuring ≥3 mm open horizontal probe depth. Patients were entered into two randomly selected treatment groups. In one group (CMG) 13 patients were treated with collagen barrier membrane (BioMend Extend®) and freeze dried bone allograft (FDBA) (500–1000 μm). In the other group, 13 patients were treated with flap debridement alone (OFD). Treatment was performed on either the mandibular buccal or lingual surface or the maxillary buccal surface of first or second molars. All measurements were performed by two blinded examiners.; Both groups showed a statistically significant improvement following the treatment of Class II furcation defects in humans.
