Many critics label Louise Erdrich as a Native American author and thus inaccurately categorize her and narrowly interpret the themes in her five works of fiction: Love Medicine, The Beet Queen, Tracks, The Bingo Palace, and Tales of Burning Love. This paper focuses instead on the universal relevance of Erdrich's themes. Ideas discussed include the importance of naming and family in identity development, the acquisition and use of spiritual and financial power, and, ultimately, the interconnectedness of all beings. |
