Abstract/Summary:
Changes in selected strength variables, trait anxiety, and state anxiety were investigated among 22 prepubescent female gymnasts, ages 8-13. Each subject participated in a weight training program. Maximum back and leg, bench press, and hip flexor strength were measured. The Sport Competition Anxiety Test and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory were administered to measure changes in trait and state anxiety.;A one-way analysis of variance with repeated measures was the statistic used for this study. Results were significant at p ;As a result of this study, it can be theorized that a weight training program can be influential in improving body strength and decreasing competitive trait among these prepubescent female gymnasts.
