Research On Children’s Furniture Design Based On Sensory Integration Theory

Sensation is the beginning of children’s understanding of the world,And at the same time,the sensory integration ability is an important basis of children’s physical and mental development.In view of the importance of sensory integration,this study,based on the sensory integration theory and taking preschool children’s furniture as the research object,aims to put forward a new set of children’s furniture design theories so that children’s furniture has the function of sensory integration training.Firstly,starting from the laws of children’s physical and mental characteristics,this paper expounds Piaget’s cognitive development theory,Eriksson’s personality development theory,Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory,cognitive psychology theory,etc.Then the specific research will be conducted from the perspective of the perception characteristics and perception form of five sensory organs,namely,vision,hearing,touch,proprioception and vestibular sense.At the same time,the application of sensory integration training in product and furniture design and the needs and precautions of children’s sensory integration training are investigated and analyzed.Thus a conclusion can be made about characteristics of children’s furniture based on sensory integration theory,which includes,safety,pertinence,playfulness,guidance and interaction.The relationship between the five sensory training and children’s furniture design are clarified through the decoration,modeling,material,function and other elements.Finally,it discusses the application of sensory integration theory in children’s furniture design.It is presented as five categories,the visual training,auditory training,tactile training,proprioceptive training and vestibular training.Furthermore,three aspects are elaborated,namely the children’s furniture and children’s interactive way,children’s sensory integration training way,the guiding effect of children’s furniture on children’s behavior.And it puts forward the design elements and design principles of children’s furniture based on sensory integration theory.The design principles include safety principle,sensory integration theory based design principle,interest principle and intelligence principle.Finally a set of children’s furniture design guidance theoys endowed with sensory integration training function are put forward.
