Research On Small Dwelling Seats Based On User-Centered Design

With the advancement of society,people’s personal life,working life,and social life are changing.As time goes by,the society is becoming more and more complex,science and technology are developing rapidly and small dwellings have become a popular housing option for people.However,people who live in small living spaces tend to suffer from depression or even commit suicide.Nowadays,people are often under pressure.Compared with physical diseases,psychological ones are more deadly,which can have a negative impact on people’s health.More than one-third of people think that they are always under great pressure,and more than one-fifth have experienced extreme pressure that they cannot bear.At the same time,psychological stress has been proven to be a major cause of cardiovascular diseases.Given the peculiarity of small dwellings,there is an urgent need to design a leisure chair that meets the needs of people living in small dwellings,due to their increasing psychological needs.Once furniture is placed indoors,there is always a fixed layout.However,it is obviously not the best choice to meet people’s needs through overlaying pieces of furniture in a limited space.Therefore,in the design of small dwelling furniture,designers may take into consideration the needs of different people(or the same person)under different circumstances,times,and other factors.Designing a piece of multifunctional furniture that is of more functions(usually these functions can only be realized by using multiple pieces of furniture)can better meet the different needs of individuals or family members.The design not only involves the necessary functions of the furniture but also the functions of other furniture,which allows people to design their own unique space according to their living habits and personal hobbies.This thesis mainly focuses on small dwellings under 80 sqm.Employing a usercentered method,the thesis,based on the study on home seats,analyses in-depth the design methods of enhancing the people’s living experience in small dwellings.The main needs of people living in small dwellings are hereby researched by means of applying the Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP),scenario analysis,and interviews.Meanwhile,with reference to some excellent artistic and multifunctional furniture seats,theories of guiding significance are drawn,which are able to meet the psychological needs of people living in small dwellings.Finally,the user-centered design method and the double-diamond design model are integrated to do the relevant design and to improve the prototype through a feasibility test.It is hoped that this thesis can be a reference to promoting future researches on the design of small dwelling seats and on the psychological influence of furniture.
