Foster’s Theory Of Ecological Politics

With the deepening of the global ecological crisis,more and more scholars pay attention to the ecological environment.As a representative of American ecological Marxism,John Bellamy Foster combines ecological problems with political problems from the standpoint of Marxism,analyses the ecological and social problems of capitalism from the perspective of ecological politics,and reveals the anti-ecological nature of capitalist system and the fallacy of the way to solve the ecological crisis under the capitalist framework,and puts forward the idea of ecological revolution on this basis.Foster’s ecological political thought plays an important role in the western ecological Marxist theoretical system and provides an alternative way to solve the current global ecological crisis.Based on this,the paper makes a comprehensive exposition and systematic study of Foster’s eco-political thought.This paper is divided into five parts: the first part is the introduction,which mainly introduces the research background and significance,the current academic research progress on Foster’s ecological political thought,research methods and possible innovations.In addition,this paper defines the research topic--ecological politics.The second part expounds the realistic background and theoretical origin of Foster’s ecological political thought.The third part discusses Foster’s construction of Marx’s ecological thought.By systematically investigating the origin and development of dialectical materialism,he reconstructed the ecological basis of marxism and refuted various fallacies of “marxism and ecology are incompatible”.Foster also constructed the marxist thought of “metabolism fracture”,including the causes and solutions of “metabolism fracture”.The fourth part discusses Foster’s analysis and criticism of contemporary capitalist ecological crisis,including the scale,characteristics and causes of capitalist ecological crisis.On this basis,it analyses Foster’s criticism on the way to solve the ecological crisis under the capitalist condition--namely,revealing the lie of natural capitalization and technological reformism.The fifth part discusses Foster’s conception of the future social ecological politics blueprint,including the formulation of ecological revolution strategy,and the exploration of the practical path of ecological politics.Finally,on the basis of the aforementioned explanation of Foster’s eco-political thought,a brief evaluation is made on his thought,and the enlightenment of Foster’s eco-political thought to the construction of “Beautiful China” is discussed in response to the current practice of ecological civilization construction in China.
