Since 2009,polluting weather such as smog with PM2.5 as the main component has seriously threatened our daily life and health.Environmental regulation is the primary measure to solve environmental problems.Based on the external characteristics of environmental regulation and the regional spread of haze pollution,it is of great significance to explore the impact of environmental regulation on haze pollution. This article takes 30 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in the mainland of my country as the research object, and the period from 2009 to 2018 is the research interval.Comprehensive indicators of environmental regulation, use PM2.5concentration to characterize the degree of haze pollution, and analyze the temporal and spatial evolution trends of environmental regulations and haze pollution;then, the level of technological innovation and foreign direct investment are used as intermediary variables,Use the intermediary effect to explore the mechanism of the impact of environmental regulations on haze pollution;finally, using Moran’s I index to test the spatial correlation between environmental regulation and haze pollution, test and select spatial measurement models, and use the space duo The Bin Model(SDM)explores the direct and indirect effects of eight factors, including environmental regulation, economic development level, energy consumption structure, industrial structure, technological innovation level, foreign direct investment, traffic pressure, and population density,on haze pollution. And based on the research results of this article, corresponding environmental regulation policy recommendations are put forward. The main findings of this paper are as follows:(1)From 2009 to 2018,my country’s environmental regulations and haze pollution have shown an upward trend and then a downward trend. There are large differences in environmental regulations between regions, with the eastern, central and northern regions being stronger,Other regions are weaker. The air quality in the western and southern parts of China is relatively good. The areas hardest hit by smog pollution are concentrated in the eastern and central parts, and there are obvious spatial distribution characteristics of high-high agglomeration and low-low agglomeration;(2)China’s environmental regulations There is a relatively obvious positive spatial correlation with smog pollution as a whole, and there is also a clear spatial positive correlation between haze pollution among regions.High-high concentration type smog pollution is mainly concentrated in the eastern, central and northern regions of China. Some of its neighboring provinces also appear this kind of agglomeration;(3)Environmental regulation will indirectly affect haze pollution through foreign direct investment, that is,the increase in the intensity of environmental regulation will reduce the introduction of foreign direct investment, thereby reducing haze pollution.Among them, the mediation effect accounts for 32.6%of the total effect;(4)Haze pollution has obvious spatial spillover effects in various regions.Every time the local PM2.5 concentration value increases by 1%,the PM2.5concentration value in adjacent areas will be Land increased by 0.479%.Among the eight influencing factors selected in this article, environmental regulations, economic development level, technological innovation level, foreign direct investment, and traffic pressure all have significant indirect effects on smog pollution. In addition, industrial structure and population density have significant indirect effects on smog pollution. The impact is not obvious.
