The hydrophilic materials are generally characterized by their affinity for water;they can also be described by their interactions with polar and non-polar substances.The super hydrophilic materials is said to have more thermodynamically favorable interactions with water and other polar solvents such as ethanol,than they do have with oil and non-polar solvents such as cyclohexane.The ability of water to lie on a surface as a flat substrate rather in form of droplets is one of the crucial surface properties which play an important role in many practical applications,including oil in water separation,water treatment,pervaporation and biomedical.Research has shown that most of this super hydrophilic surface is made of low durability which pose a great deal of challenges to the industrial application especially those that works with sensor camera lens.Because of the inability of the surface to work under a harsh environment underwater such as strong acid or alkaline,organic solvent and low mechanical wear resistance,It becomes important and worthy for more research to be conducted in other to solve this problem and increase the industrial application of this surface.This research is concerned on solving the problem of this low chemical and mechanical durability of the surface that has the tendency and capacity to resist mechanical wear to a reasonable extent.In this research work,a simple spraying method was used in fabricating the super hydrophilic surface with improved chemical and mechanical wear properties as it was the primary aim or purpose of my research work.Being able to achieve a durable superhydrophilic surface is a great achievement concerning this research work and also the other properties being achieved and examined.The results suggested that the coating exhibited a high rate of superhydrophilicity on the stainless steel mesh(SSM).Particularly,the contact angle(CA)of water on the surface is zero(0).The as-prepared coating also possessed excellent chemical and mechanical durability.The practical significance of these surfaces in our industrial field and Engineering as a whole can never be overemphasized.The hydrophilicity is used to achieved a desired effect in numerous applications,Anti-fogs coatings exploit high surface energies to flatten water drops rather than allowing it to form light scattering droplets.The formation of tightly adherent layers of water with lubricity in biological systems,the ability to resist oil adsorption in anti-graffiti coatings is made possible by the hydrophilic coatings with hydrogen bonding site.Hydroxylic and cationic silicones can be used as emulsifiers and polyelectrolytes,respectively and are of most important used for anti-fog and anti-stat.Silanes and other metal organics with hydrolysable groups can be used to treat/react to the surface with the aim of imparting hydrophilicity to the surface.
