Under the era background when the rapid development of the intelligent home living industry and the garbage sorting policies go side by side,user needs of garbage cans have been experiencing changes.At the same time,with the arrival of the scenario era,the scenario experience with intelligent home living at its core has been demonstrating the good vision of the future life.As part of the intelligent home living,the intelligent garbage cans have been expected to seek innovational design to meet changes of user and scenario needs.With the scenario theory as the research tool,this paper proposes the scenario analysis process for product design so as to acquire user needs and provide guidance for design.Scenario theories are a collection of service design ideas and experiences with the scenario at its core.Integration of scenario theories into the product design process can not only provide design strategies resolving around user scenarios and improve the user satisfaction,but also serve as applied research of scenario theories to further expand the application scope of scenario theories.This paper focuses on analyzing and combing relevant research findings,and integrating product design and scenario theories to propose the product design process based on scenario theories.The product design process can be divided into four stages,including survey of objective scenarios,construction of expected scenarios,product design practices,and verification of virtual scenarios.Moreover,this paper applies the product design process to the design process of the intelligent garbage can.At the stage of objective scenario survey,the questionnaire is used to identify the target users.The corresponding objective scenario model is built to take a deeper look at the users ’ practical scenarios.Different scenarios and scenario attributes are summarized in accordance with the survey results.The Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP)is introduced to calculate the weight of each scenario zone.At the stage of expected scenarios,objective scenario survey results are combined to analyze the garbage can use process.With the garbage can use process at the core,the expected scenarios are built.Following that,the fishbone diagram is employed to examine user needs,and the grey correlation analysis(GRA)is used to calculate the weight of user needs.At the stage of product design,user needs are converted into design strategies,and combined with the market survey to guide the intelligent garbage can design project from the functional,interactive,and appearance perspective.Following that,expected user behaviors are discussed to construct the virtual scenario.The Fuzzy Comprehensive Assessment(FCA)is adopted to verify the feasibility of the design plan as well as the feasibility and value of the model to product design.To sum up,this paper applies scenario theories to the design process of intelligent garbage bins to acquire user needs,clarify the design direction and verify the design plan from the perspective of scenario analysis.Results show that this product design not only pays attention to the product limitations,but also ensure the user needs to be more comprehensive and scientific,and the design plan to be more rational.Meanwhile,this design can provide positive implications for the design of other intelligent home living products.
