With the advent of the information age and the popularization of smart phones, the proliferation of information makes the information that Internet users receive every day vary from good to bad. Therefore information screening has become a common and natural behavior in daily life.At present, the report of the 19 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China emphasizes that the further implementation of the "Healthy China Strategy" has written a clear blueprint for a healthy China.Improving the health information literacy of the whole people has become an urgent problem to be solved. It is important to find true information from a large amount of health information and improve the ability to identify health information. For this reason, health informatics research has become one of the research hotspots in the library and information field, especially the occurrence of COVID-19,which makes scholars in the library and information field pay more attention to health information and information behavior research. This study regards health information screening as an activity, with middle-aged and elderly people as the research object, and believes that only when users with high health information literacy know more about the acquisition, cognition, and evaluation of health information, can they correctly distinguish true and false health information;Users with high self-efficacy expect success and will stick to an activity until it is completed. Therefore,it is inferred that users’ health information literacy and self-efficacy will affect the health information screening ability of the above groups.Through the "We Chat search" experiment, with the help of health information literacy scale and self-efficacy scale to collect relevant data,to study the impact and its changes of health information literacy and self-efficacy on the group’s health information screening ability. The experiment found that:(1)There are significant differences in the health information screening ability scores of the middle-aged and elderly people in the high and low health information literacy and self-efficacy groups, indicating that both health information literacy and self-efficacy have an impact on the health information screening ability of the middle-aged and old people.(2)In the high and low health information literacy and self-efficacy groups, there are significant differences in the accuracy, rationality, and support ability of health information in each dimension score of the health information screening ability of the middle-aged and elderly people, and the health information reliability screening ability does not exist significant differences, and indicate that under different health information literacy and self-efficacy levels,middle-aged and elderly people are all vigilant about online health information and feel that online health information is not credible.(3)There is a significant difference in the increase in the scores of the health information screening ability of the middle-aged and elderly people in the high and low health information literacy groups and the high and low self-efficacy groups, indicating that health information literacy and self-efficacy affect the improvement of the health information discrimination ability of the middle-aged and old people after searching. The identification ability can be improved by strengthening the health information literacy,self-efficacy and search education of middle-aged and elderly people.(4)Health information literacy and self-efficacy have no interactive influence on the ability and its increment of middle-aged and elderly people to identify health information.(5)Demographic variables have a great impact on the health information screening ability of middle-aged and elderly people and the improvement of their ability after searching.Age and education level have an impact on the health information screening ability of middle-aged and elderly people, while gender and place of residence have no impact on it.From the above-mentioned experimental findings,it can be concluded that the older the age,the weaker the health information screening ability, and the higher the education level, the stronger the health information screening ability;the higher the health information literacy and self-efficacy of the middle-aged and elderly people, the higher their health information screening ability will be.After searching,it has been greatly improved. The stronger the health information screening ability, the slower the improvement of the health information screening ability after the search. The research results suggest that we can enhance the health information screening ability of middle-aged and elderly people by improving users’ health information literacy and self-efficacy and conducting search education, thereby improving the public’s health knowledge reserve and health information literacy. This study not only expands the research methods in the field of health information screening, but also improves the research on influencing factors in this field. It verifies that health information literacy and self-efficacy have an impact on the health information screening ability of middle-aged and elderly people, and clarifies the channels for improve the health information screening capabilities of middle-aged and elderly people, and from the four perspectives of users, communities, society, and library and information agencies, provide advice and suggestions for improving the health information screening capabilities and health information literacy of the middle-aged and elderly groups and even the whole people.
