Objectives: Evaluate the injury of plantar plate(PP)in patients with hallux valgus and explore the diagnostic value of ultrasound in hallux valgus. Methods:The length, width and thickness of PP were measured in 12patients(20 patients with hallux valgus)and 40 healthy controls. The length, width and thickness of PP were measured by ultrasonography in the2-5PP in groups(80 in Hallux Valgus group and 160 in control group),to observe the internal echo, continuity and bone of attachment of PP in two groups, and to analyze the difference of three diameter lines of PP between hallux valgus group and control group and the injury of PP.General clinical data including age, sex, height, weight and BMI were collected.Pearson correlation coefficient was used to analyze the correlation of general data between the two groups and the correlation between the three radial lines of PP and the general data of the subjects. Results:There was significant difference in PP thickness between hallux valgus group and control group(p < 0.05),but no significant difference in PP length and width between the two groups(P > 0.05).In hallux valgus group,PP tears accounted for 51.2%,including 36.5% of PP2 tears,31.7% of PP3 tears,17.0% of PP4 tears and 14.6% of PP5 tears. There was no correlation between PP diameter and age, height, weight and BMI.Conclusion: Hallux Valgus is easy to be complicated with PP injury, and ultrasound can clearly and directly shows the PP pathological changes in patients with hallux valgus.
