Objective:The aim of this study was to observe the effects of a novel crosslinked collagen membrane used in conjunction with xenogeneic bone substitute material in the anterior maxilla for guided bone regeneration with simultaneous implantation;and to analyze the factors that influence the result of guided bone regeneration,in order to provide evidence for clinical treatment plan and surgeryMETHODS:A total of n=23 patients required guided bone regeneration with a single missing tooth in the anterior maxilla were randomly divided into two groups:noncrosslinked(Bio-Gide,n=12)and crosslinked(Haiao,n=11).A Straumann tissue level implant was placed in each patient during the operation with xenogeneic bone substitute material(haiao(?)bone repair material)on the bone defect area, and collagen membrane was applied respectively, then left to heal in a submerged position. The thickness of gingival and classification of alveolar were measured at the time of surgery.Cone beam computed tomography(CBCT)was performed immediately after graft placement and 24 weeks later.Imaging measurement was done.A statistical analysis was then performed using a software program(SPSS 19.0),and the unpaired t-test was used for intergroup comparison.Factors related to bone resorption were also analyzed.RESULTS:The mean value of bone resorption at coronal, middle and apical of implant was respectively 0.63±0.46mm,0.93±0.70mm and 0.47±0.36mm in Group Noncrosslinked, and 0.77±0.55mm,0.76±0.47mm and 0.64±0.39mm in Group Crosslinked. There was no statistical significance between two groups during the 24-week period;the bone resorption had relevance to the appearance of alveolar bone and patient’s age based on the Pearson correlation analysisCONCLUSIONS:Bone augmentation performed in the anterior maxilla with simultaneous implantation could be effective no matter which membrane(noncrosslinked&crosslinked)was used;the results of bone graft could be affected by the age of patient and the appearance of alveolar process.
