Objective:Sudden cardiac death(SCD)is death occurring from a cardiac cause within 1 hour of the onset of new or worsening fined as unexpected,nontraumatic symptoms(witnessed arrest)or,if unwitnessed,within 24 hours of last being seen alive.It is a major cause of mortality in acute coronary syndromes,and always presents as cardiac arrest,mostly caused by initial rhythm complex ventricular arrhythmias,in particular,ventricular fibrillation(VF).Due to its low recovery success rate,it is urgent to study this aspect for improving situation in clinic.However the preparation of animal model studies is with high risk on cost.In order to promote this type of research,by reference of experience of predecessors,we design for the construction of the ventricular fibrillation pig model in a new method which is more economical,convenient,safe and efficient.Methods:12 Tibetan miniature pigs were punctured by two acupuncture needle in the left and right sides of the heart.Through three 9V batteries to provide DC power supply,animals were induced ventricular fibrillation on 3 seconds.After building up cardiac arrest model,cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed according to the Utstein style standard after 4 minutes untreated period,and the survival after recovery was observed.Results:Ventricular fibrillation was developed successfully in 11 of 12 Tibetan miniature pigs(91.67%)by the method.After cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed,5 of 11 pigs returned of spontaneous circulation with recovery success rate:45.45%.Subsequent survival observation:5 Tibetan miniature pigs live longer than 24 h,and 4 of them survived over 72 h.Conclusion:Utilizing acupuncture needles and dry batteries in Tibetan miniature pigs can successfully construct a stable model of cardiac arrest by this method which is economical,convenient,safe and efficient.However,the pathophysiological conditions of the simulation by the method are still limited.The merit and demerit of the ventricular fibrillation model by this method should be considered according to different study design requirement.
