At the end of 2019,the proportion of C hina’s population aged 60 and over reached 18.1%.It is estimated that by 2025,the population of China’s population aged 60 and over will reach 300 million, making it a super-aged country. As the degree of social aging further intensifies, medical expenses increase correspondingly, and the pressure on the medical system gradually increases. And family care is still a mainstream care model.Since the issue of the impact of family care on the utilization of medical services for the elderly is still inconclusive, the conclusion of substitution and complementation coexists,so discussing the relationship between the two is still a subject worthy of further investigation. This article uses data from the China Health and Elderly Tracking Survey 2011,2013,and 2015,and takes 60-year-olds and older as the research object to empirically analyze the impact of home care on the use of outpatients and hospitalization of the elderly. The estimated results of the panel logit model show that: family care has a complementary relationship with outpatient, inpatient and general medical services, and compared with the impact on outpatient service, the complementary effect of family care on the elderly using inpatient services is more obvious. In addition, there are differences between urban and rural areas in this impact.Compared with rural areas, family care has a stronger complementary effect on the outpatient, hospitalization and overall medical service utilization of the elderly in urban areas; The complementary effect on the hospitalization of the elderly with poor health is stronger. The analysis in this article is a kind of enrichment and supplement to the existing research, which fully shows that the medical needs of the elderly in C hina have not yet been fully released, and providing home care can significantly improve the medical services of the elderly, especially those in urban areas or those with poor health Utilization.
