Objectives This study was designed to investigate the prevalence of poor sleep quality and identify associated factors among college students in Jilin Province,China. Methods A total of 6,284 participants were completely collected by stratified cluster sampling in 2016.Information on basic demographics, lifestyles, social and family support and subjective sleep quality was collected by questionnaire.Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI)was used to assess sleep a month a self-administered questionnaire. The total score of PSQI > 5 was poor sleep quality.SPSS(version 24.0)was used for statistical analysis and logistic regression analysis.Basic sociodemographic, lifestyles, and social and family support were also compared between good and poor sleep quality using Pearson Chi-Square for categorical variables. The gender differences for the seven PSQI components were analyzed via t-test.Multivariable logistic regression was used to obtain the odds ratios(OR)and 95% confidence intervals(CI)of the predictors, and explore the association between factors and sleep quality after adjusting for gender and age.Two-tailed P < 0.05 was applied to determine the statistical significance. Results 1.The total PSQI score of 6284 college students was 4.51±2.52,and 40.4% of them slept less than 7 hours on average,1,951(31.0%)participants were classified into poor sleep quality group,as defined by PSQI score > 5.2.Males scored significantly higher than females on sleep duration and use of sleep medication, while females scored significantly higher than males on PSQI total and sleep disturbances. The total score of Sleep duration of the Han ethnic group was higher than that of the ethnic minority group. The score of use of sleep medication of the Han ethnic group was lower than that of the ethnic minority group. The total score of sleep latency in the senior grades was higher than that in the lower grades. The scores of sleep duration, sleep disturbance, daytime dysfunction and total PSQI score were higher in the junior grades than in the senior grades. The score of subjective sleep quality in the group with high family per capita monthly income was lower than that of the group with low family per capita monthly income. There were significant differences in subjective sleep quality, sleep latency, sleep drugs and total scores of daytime dysfunction among college students with different monthly fees. There were statistical differences in the total scores of subjective sleep quality, sleep latency, sleep medication and daytime dysfunction among college students with different monthly fees.3.The results of the multivariate logistic regression show the following factors to be significant predictors of poor sleep quality: grade, family relationship, communication with parents, alcohol use, study pressure of this academic year, days off from school,self-injurious behaviors, suicidal ideation in the past 12 months, and regularly exercised. Conclusion 1.1,951(31.0%)participants were classified into poor sleep quality group,as defined by a PSQI score > 5.2.The following factors to be significant predictors of poor sleep quality: grade, family relationship, communication with parents, alcohol use, study pressure of this academic year, days off from school,self-injurious behaviors, suicidal ideation in the past 12 months, and regularly exercised.3.Proper physical exercise is a protective factor for college students’ sleep quality.
