Objective:To survey the prevalence and correlative factors of apathy through investigating demographic character and clinical features of motor symptoms and non-motor symptoms(NMS)in Northeast Sichuan Parkinson’s disease(PD)patients. Methods:A total of 120 definite clinical diagnosed PD patients from the Department of Neurology of Affiliated Hospital of North Sichuan Medical College were consecutively recruited in this cross-sectional study between January 2018 and December 2019.The Unified PD Rating Scale part Ⅲ(UPDRS III),Hoehn and Yahr(H&Y)stage and Non-Motor Symptom Scale(NMSS)were used to access the motor symptoms and NMS.The global cognitive function was evaluated using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment(MoCA).Frontal lobe function was assessed by the Frontal Assessment Battery(FAB).Depression was assessed using the Beck Depression Inventory(BDI).The health-related quality of life was assessed using the 39-item Parkinson’s Disease Questionnaire(PDQ-39).Results:Apathy was observed in 3 7.5%of PD patients in our study. The scores of MoCA and FAB were significantly lower in PD patients with apathy than in those without apathy. The levodopa equivalent daily dose(LEDD),proportion of treatment with levodopa, scores of the H-Ystage,UPDRS III,PDQ-39 and BDI were significantly higher in PD patients with apathy than in those without apathy. The prevalence of attention/memory domain with the items "concentration" and "recent memory loss",gastrointestinal domain with the item "constipation",urinary domain with the items "nocturia" and"frequency micturition",and the items "difficulty falling asleep","lost of interest","apathy" and "feeling sad" were significantly higher in PD patients with apathy than in those without apathy,No significant differences in the prevalence of the remaining domains or items were observed between patients with and without apathy. The logistic regression indicated that lower MoCA scores, higher BDI scores and presence of urinary domain symptoms in NMSS were associated with apathy in Northeast Sichuan PD.Conclusion:Apathy was common NMS in Northeast Sichuan PD patients.PD patients with cognitive dysfunction, depression and urinary symptoms were prone to present with apathy.
