ObjectiveTo explore effectiveness of thumb-tag needle surround at Yifeng Point on the peripheral facial paralysis of patients early treated through randomized controlled design and in order to provide an excellent new way for the clinical treatment of peripheral facial paralysis.MethodsA total of 64 eligible subjects were randomly allocated into treatment group(32)and control group(32).The control group was given by conventional acupuncture,the treatment group was given by the thumb-tag needle surround at Yifeng point combined with the same as control group treatment.Before and after the intervention,the subjects were assessed with the House-Brackmann grading system,House-Brackmann symptom score,FDI and the degrees eye and mouth deviation index.House-brackmann symptom core and FDI was evaluated repeatedly at the 7th,14th days respectively.After treatment,the efficacy and cure of the two groups were compared.Statistical analysis used by SPSS20.0 software.ResultA sample size of 64 subjects were estimated,and at the end of intervention period,none subject dropped out,none lost to follow-up.As a result,all subjects were included in the protocol data.1.The baseline results showed that the outcomes had no statistical differences between the two groups in age,gender,course of disease,the side of facial paralysis,House-Brackmann grading system,House-Brackmann symptom score,FDI,the degrees eye and mouth deviation index before treatment(P>0.05).2.The group comparison: At the end of intervention period,both groups of House-Brackmann grading system and the degrees eye and mouth deviation index were better than treatment before,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).The two groups were compared to the 7th,14th,21st before the treatment.The score of House-Brackmann symptom,FDIP and FDIS had gradually improved,the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Comparison between groups: The treatment group was better than the control group in House-Brackmann grading system and the degrees eye and mouth deviation index at the end of intervention period(P<0.05).The score of House-Brackmann symptom and FDIP in the treatment group on the 7th,14th,21st day was better than the control group(P<0.05).The score of FDIS in the treatment group on the 14th,21st day was better than controlled group(P<0.05).3.The results showed that the total effective rate of the treatment group was 96.9%and the control group was 90.6%.The outcomes had statistical differences between the two groups(P<0.05).4.Compared the healing days of peripheral facial paralysis between the two groups,the treatment group was significantly shorter than the control group,and the number of people cured was significantly increased,which was statistically(P<0.05).Conclusion:1.Both of thumb-tag needle surround Yifeng point combined with conventional acupuncture and the conventional acupuncture are effective in the treatment of peripheral facial paralysis.2.Thumb-tag needle surround Yifeng points can improve the conventional acupuncture therapy,shorten the average number of healing days,increased the number of recovering people and accelerate the recovery of patients with peripheral facial paralysis.Beside of that,it has safety and easy operation.So it can be used as an excellent new way for clinical treatment of peripheral facial paralysis.
