Objective:Sciatica,a common peripheral neuropathy, causes unbearable suffering to many patients and sorely disrupts their normal work and life. This study is intended to compare the improvements of symptoms by induction conduction of deep thorns by awn needle with the normal sensation by general acupuncture.Via summarizing and analyzing the data,we can evaluate the efficacy of induction conduction by awn needle stimulating nerve stem, which provides data to evaluate the efficacy of acupuncture to treat sciatica. Methods:The 66 patients with sciatica who met the criteria were selected and grouped into treatment group(33 cases)and control group(33 cases). The control group used filiform needles to obtain a general needle sense,at the meanwhile the treatment group used the awn needles to deep thorn nerve stem to produce induction conduction to the foot, the next day for 1 treatment,7 times for 1 course, after 2 courses we’ll gather the statistics.Visual Analogue Scale(VAS),Japan Orthopaedic Association Assessment Treatment Score(JOA),and Oswestry Disability Index(ODI)were used as efficacy observation indicators.Use SPSS26.0 to perform statistical analysis of data before and after treatment.Results:1 Comparing the baseline of two groups: gender, age, course of disease,pre-treatment VAS,JOA,and ODI score between the two groups. There was no significant difference between two groups(P>0.05),they are comparable.2 Comparing the VAS scores of the two groups, the VAS scores were both reduced after treatment(P<0.05).Comparing between the groups, the treatment group was able to reduce the VAS score more significantly, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).3 Comparing the JOA scores of the two groups, the JOA scores were improved in both groups after treatment(P<0.05).Compared between the groups, the treatment group was more obviously able to improve the JOA score, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).4 Comparing ODI scores of the two groups, both groups had lower ODI scores after treatment(P<0.05).Compared between the groups, the treatment group was more able to reduce the ODI score, the difference is statistically significant(P< 0.05).5 Comparing the efficacy of the two groups: treatment group had 9 cases of significantly effective,17 cases of effective,7 cases of invalid, control group had 0 cases of significantly effective,16 cases of effective,14 cases of invalid, the total effective rate of the test group(78.79%)was higher than that of the control group(53.33%),and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05),indicating that the total efficiency of the test group was significantly higher than the control group.Conclusions:1 Inductive conduction of the awn needle treatment and general needle sense of the acupuncture both relieved sciatica patients’ pain conditions and symptoms, and reduced the impact of their daily life. The VAS,JOA,ODI scores have all been improved.2 Inductive conduction by awn needle therapy is more effective on improving symptoms in patients with sciatica than general acupuncture treatment for obtaining normal sensation.
