Background and aim:2L polyethylene glycol electrolyte solutions is one of the first choices for bowel preparation of colonoscopy, but there are still many patients who cannot tolerate 2L cathartic solutions in a short period of time.Strictly restricting diet can improve the efficiency of bowel cleaning. The purpose of this study is to observe the cleansing effect of bowel preparations under strict diet control and to evaluate the possibility of further reducing the dosage of cathartic solutions. Methods: 107 patients were chosen who underwent colonoscopy in the Gastroenterology Department of Suzhou Municipal Hospital(Eastern District)from July 2020 to February 2021.They were randomly divided into 3 groups based on the diet and the dosage of cathartic solutions.Patients in group A were provided by the hospital with low-residue diet and took 1.5L PEG.Patients in group B prepared lowresidue diet by themselves and took 2L PEG.Patients in group C were provided by the hospital with low-residue diet and took 2L PEG.The efficiency of bowel cleaning was evaluated by the Boston bowel preparation scale(BBPS).The occurrence of common adverse reactions in the preparation process, the difficulty, satisfaction, acceptance and experience of intestinal preparation were collected through questionnaires,so as to evaluate the cleansing efficacy and patient experience with strict diet control.Use SPSS25.0 software for statistical analysis of data. Results: The BBPS scores of the right colon in groups A,B,and C were 1.97±0.45,1.94±0.44,and 2.23±0.58,respectively.Group C was the highest, and the difference was statistically significant. There was no statistical difference between groups A and B.The total scores of three groups were 6.47±1.16,6.44±1.01,and 7.03±1.18.Group C was the highest, and the difference was statistically significant. There was no statistical difference between groups A and B.In terms of adverse reactions, the incidence of nausea and abdominal distension in group A was lower than that in groups B and C,and the difference was statistically significant. There was no significant difference in other adverse reactions.Compared with group B,patients in groups A and C believed that the bowel preparation process was relatively simple and had better experience than before, and the difference was statistically significant. Conclusions: 1.Strictly restricting the low-residue diet can improve the efficiency of bowel cleansing compared with the patient’s own low-residue diet, and reduce the dosage of cathartic solutions.2.Strictly restricting the diet and reducing the dose of cathartic solutions can reduce the incidence of nausea and abdominal distension during bowel preparation.3.The low-residue diet directly provided by the canteen can reduce the difficulty of understanding the procedure of bowel preparation and improve the patient’s experience.
