Wang Rong was a famous politician and litterateur in the Southern Dynasty. Also one of the “Jing Ling Eight Friends Group”.Although he does not have the great achievements in landscape poetry like Xie Tao,also not as high as Shen Yue’s status in Qi and Liang literary,Wang Rong is also an important figure that cannot be ignored when it comes to Xiao Qi Dynasty.By the time of Li Tang Dynasty,Wang Rong’s character image, affairs and works still had a wide influence in Tang Dynasty because of the flourishing culture.Nan Qi Shu is an important historical record of Wang Rong’s life before the Tang Dynasty.By comparing the historical materials about Wang Rong in Nan Qi Shu,the historical materials of Liang Shu,Nan Shi and Bei Shi compiled in Tang Dynasty are more abundant. From the selection and alteration of Wang Rong’s relevant historical materials,it can be seen that historians in the Tang Dynasty mostly considered Wang Rong’s political fate and revealed his character defects. The description of Wang Rong’s collection or works in Sui Shu and Jiu Tang Shu provides historical materials for studying the evolution of his poems and essays in this period.By sorting out the materials of Wang Rong in Tang poetry,on the one hand, his image of literati is shaped in Tang poetry. While affirming Wang Rong’s ability in both poetry and prose,Tang people paid attention to his image of self-confidence and active pursuit of fame.On the other hand,Wang Rong’s works were accepted in the Tang Dynasty. His Qingli poetry style was recognized by the people in Tang Dynasty, and the factors of sound and rhythm were studied by them. The concepts of his Yuefu Poems and Miscellaneous-style Poems inspired the creation of similar works of the people in Tang Dynasty. The sentences in his poems were directly picked up by the people in Tang Dynasty,or somewhat developed.Encyclopedias and collections played an important role in the acceptance of Wang Rong’s works by the people in Tang Dynasty. They are not only a reflection of Wang Rong’s acceptance in the Tang Dynasty, but also an important arsenal to promote his acceptance in the Tang Dynasty and later generations, especially under the historical conditions that separate collections are not widely circulated.Fifty-eight of Wang Rong’s works were selected in Yi Wen Lei Ju,Chu Xue Ji and Bai Shi Liu Tie Shi Lei Ji,fifty-seven poems and essays were selected in Wen Xuan,Guang Hong Ming Ji and Wen Guan Ci Lin.The number of Wang Rong’s works included in the six books was one hundred and three, accounting for about two-thirds of Wang Rong’s total works except repetitive ones.Due to the different types of encyclopedias, classification is also different. The content was drawn from parallel sentences and rhymes,in keeping with the stylistic preferences of the day.In collections, although Wen Xuan was not compiled by the people in Tang Dynasty,Wang Rong’s works annotated by Li Shan and Wu Chen facilitated readers’ reading and expanded its influence.Guang Hong Ming Ji contains Wang Rong’s Buddhist works, which highlights the characteristics of his Buddhist poetry.Wen Guan Ci Lin was incomplete in the Song Dynasty and was partially returned from Japan in the late Qing Dynasty, which included full text of “Zeng Zu Shu Wei Jun Jian poetry” by Wang Rong.It not only has the power to recover the lost poems, but also provides evidence for the selection method of Yi Wen Lei Ju.
