The Media Representation Of The University Sports In The Republic Of China’s Universities

Since modern times,with several major changes in China’s social-political economy,society’s understanding of sports issues has also been updated.Schools have not only developed sports for the sake of students’ physical fitness,but also have more meaning behind them.Modern sports were introduced to China by Western missionary schools in the late Qing and early Republican periods.Especially in the early 20 th century,with the spread of modern sports such as gymnastics,ball sports and track and field in China,Chinese schools have gradually begun to develop campus sports.School newspapers and magazines are the media for school-wide news releases,and are places for students to express their opinions.It is also a platform for school teacher-student exchange and a derivative product of society,school authorities,editors,and students’ thoughts.Therefore,how to present a social,school,and student sports view through sports reports in school newspapers and magazines becomes a question worthy of study.Hence,this research takes the Tsinghua Weekly from 1916 to 1928 as the research object,collects the sample of the sports content published in it,and conducts research by using content analysis and literature methods to explore how the sports content of the Tsinghua Weekly presented for college sports.The research focuses on the Construction Process of Tsinghua University Sports by Tsinghua Weekly from the perspective of the Republic of China society,journalism and school sports,in order to explore the concept of sports at the university more clearly.The study found that Tsinghua Weekly is rich in sports news reports.This paper analyzes the sports view of Tsinghua university from the aspects of different stages of Tsinghua Weekly,such as the change of the number of sports reports,the choice of sports report topics and the written style of sports reports.The view of strengthening the powerful nation is embodied in the training of soldiers and scouts in Tsinghua in case of external danger,and it is manifested in the establishment of national image under nationalism and the cultural adaptation.The view of popularizing is about participation and multiple sports culture.The view of autonomy is manifested in the autonomy of student newspapers and student sports organizations.Therefore,it is found that the concept of Tsinghua sports in the Republic of China is advanced in the times and still has a strong enlightening effect on the development of Chinese school sports 100 years later.
