Listening is an important skill in Foreign Language Learning,and its process is the result which is affected by many factors.In 2017,the English Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools in China clearly stated that the content of senior high school English curriculum is the basis of cultivating students’ English Core Competencies,and the ultimate goal of English curriculum is to cultivate students’ listening,speaking,reading,viewing and writing abilities.Therefore,how to effectively improve these abilities has become the focus of many scholars and teachers.At present,the existing research shows that students’ self-efficacy and learning strategy affect students’ academic achievement,however,there are few studies on the relationship among listening self-efficacy(henceforth,LSE),listening strategy(henceforth,LS)and listening achievement(henceforth,LA)of senior high school students in ethnic areas,and the author found that there still exist great difficulties in listening study of senior high school students in ethnic areas with the process of investigation.In view of this,this paper conducted the study which focused on the above three aspects and the problems found in the investigation.This study adopted the instrument of questionnaire and semi-structured interview,used the convenience sampling method to investigate the current situation of LSE,LS and LA of 620 students who were from 5 high schools in Qian Dongnan and Qian Nan states,and studied the relationship among the three variables and the existing problems,to explore the way to promote the senior high school students English listening teaching in ethnic areas.This thesis focuses on the following five questions :1).What is the current situation of listening self-efficacy of senior high school students in ethnic areas?2).What is the current situation of English listening strategy of senior high school students in ethnic areas?3).What is the current situation of listening achievement of senior high school students in ethnic areas?4).Are there any correlation among listening self-efficacy,strategy and achievements of senior high school students in ethnic areas? If there are,what are they?5).What are the factors that affect students’ listening self-efficacy and listening strategy?This thesis used SPSS16.0 software to analyze the collected data,mainly through Descriptive Analysis,Independent Sample T-test,Pearson Correlation Analysis,Regression Analysis and Theme Analysis methods to carry on the analysis,drew the following results:1).The English listening self-efficacy of senior high school students in ethnic areas is at a medium level(m=2.95).In addition,the mean score of perceived basic capability(henceforth,PBC)is 3.05 while the mean score of perceived control(henceforth,PC)is 2.79.2).The use of listening strategies in senior high school students is at a medium level(m=3.28).The mean score of the three dimensions from high to low are metacognitive strategies(3.49),cognitive strategies(3.21)and social/emotional strategies(3.13).3).The listening achievement of senior high school students in ethnic areas is at a medium level(m=20.65).4).The senior high school students’ listening self-efficacy,listening strategies and listening achievement show a pairwise positive correlation;In other words,there is a significant positive correlation between high school students’ listening self-efficacy and listening strategies(r=0.409),there is a significant positive correlation between high school students’ listening self-efficacy and listening achievement(r=0.319),there is also a significant positive correlation between listening strategies and listening achievement(r=0.311);And the effect of listening strategies on listening achievement is higher than that of self-efficacy.5).The factors influencing senior high school students’ LSE included achievement experience,substitution experience,oral persuasion,and emotional state,while the factors influencing high school students’ LS included learning motivation,learners’ cognitive development level,learners’ original knowledge and experience,teaching methods,and learning atmosphere.Based on the above research results,this thesis gives some suggestions for the listening teaching of senior high schools in ethnic areas.Teachers should focus on cultivating students’ LSE,and target cultivating students’ PBC which has a positive influence on students’ LA.At the same time,teachers should pay attention to the students’ individual differences and the students’ PC,which has a negative influence on students’ LA.In addition,teachers should guide and train students to use the LS effectively,focus on training students’ MCS and CS,which have the positive influence on students’ LA.At the same time,Teachers should pay attention to cultivating students’ SAS,which has a negative influence on students’ LA,guide the student to use the SAS reasonably,so as to improve the listening teaching fundamentally.
