| The material of this translation report is taken from the book Agriculture for Improved Nutrition:Seizing the Momentum,which comprehensively studies the impact of agriculture on nutrition and clarifies how malnutrition can be better addressed through the transformation of food production,processing,marketing and retail systems.The second,third and eighth chapters of this book,devoted to the study of improved nutrition through agriculture and food,were chosen by the translator as the source text of this translation practiceFood and Agriculture Organization(FAO)says that half of the world’s population is suffering from malnutrition.As the largest developing country with 20%of the world’s population,China’s nutrition problem will be a more important challenge after food security.Although the world has made remarkable achievements in fighting hunger and improving nutrition,malnutrition and overnutrition are still prevalent worldwide.The elimination of hunger and malnutrition is an important goal of agricultural modernization.The improved nutrition should be achieved through food and agriculture.This translation report consists of four chapters.Chapter One introduces the task background,source text introduction and the significance of the task.Chapter Two is process description,which briefly summarizes the translator’s preparation before translation,the key points and difficulties in translation,and the modification and polishing of the translated text.Chapter Three,the core chapter of this report,deals with case study.Guided by the communicative translation theory,the translator starts mainly from the lexical and syntactical levels,analyzes the translation of nutrition terms,abbreviations and polysemous words in combination with specific cases,and studies the translation of complex sentences and compound sentences.Chapter Four is the conclusion of this paper,involving the experiences and lessons from this translation practice,as well as the problems to be solved in the translation process.This translation report aims to study the translation of agricultural English and introduce some knowledge related to nutrition. |
