| Due to the dual effects of the pandemic and Russia-Ukraine conflict, there’s a growing demand for food around the world;plus, the higher temperature has had a severe impact on food production. Therefore,it’s time to build a resilient food system for the improvements in the worsening condition. The translation report is the second chapter in Resilient Agriculture: Cultivating Food Systems for a Changing Climate(the second edition)written by Laura Lengnick. This part mainly describes what the resilient agriculture is,how resilience thinking benefits agriculture, and considers the resilience of the agroecosystem from the overall perspective. With new perspective, the book is of great significance to the resilience of agroecosystem. As the source text belongs to informative text according to Newmark’s Text Typology, more attention is paid to the communicative effect during translation. There’re three main translation problems including abstract terms, complicated preposition phrases and attributive clauses with adverbial function in the process of translation.Several translation skills are used to be a solution to these difficulties under the guidance of communicative translation.Based on the good understanding of the source text, amplification and addition are selected to handle abstract terms. In terms of complicated preposition phrases, through the mastery of the logic relation, division and restructuring are very important translation skills to remove incomprehension. As for the translation of attributive clauses with adverbial function, inversion and restructuring are adopted for the adjustment to sentence order, thus making the target text more fluent and idiomatic.Through this translation practice, the translator recognized the importance of the analysis and good understanding of the source text.Even more, the translator has strengthened the ability to apply the translation theory into practice. |
