A Study On The Musical Activities Of Literati In Song Renzong Dynasty

There are two kinds of music that ancient Chinese scholars faced:one is ritual music,the other is folk music.Song Renzong literati’s music life mainly includes these two kinds of music,therefore,because of the contradiction among them,they have a more complex ideological tendency.On the one hand,they "worship elegance and restrain vulgarity" in the real music activities,but they are not thorough;on the other hand,they love the music of singing and dancing,but they dare not pursue it freely because of the limitation of the traditional Confucian music concept.Therefore,they often show contradictory musical attitudes.This attitude influenced the literary creation of Song Renzong.Because of the literati’s tendency of advocating elegance and suppressing vulgarity in music concept and the derogatory words in literature concept,when they write music activities,they also have different choices for the style they use,so the influence of music activities on the creation of poetry and CI is different.In order to publicize the thought of rites and music,the literati increased a lot of factors of rites and music in their poems at this time;because of their love of music and singing,the literati actively engaged in the creation of Ci,but influenced by the trend of thought ofreviving rites and music,they consciously refined the CI.The elegance of song Renzong’s Ci was the compromise of these two tendencies.
